it works for files, but for dirs I get:

bash-2.04$ls -lu dirname
total 0
bash-2.04$
[download]

okay, do `ls -lud dirname` then. The important question is: does the last accessed time as shown by ls differ from the last access time as shown by -A?	[reply] [d/l]

It looks like it's an operating system error. Something funky with the OS, not perl, is going on. I'll update the title & root node to that affect. Thanks for helping me with this problem, ++ ! ---- Zak - the office	[reply]
