    Sorry, that should be ls -lu
      it works for files, but for dirs I get:
      bash-2.04$ls -lu dirname total 0 bash-2.04$

        okay, do ls -lud dirname then. The important question is: does the last accessed time as shown by ls differ from the last access time as shown by -A?
