Could you possibly, or rather would you care to be more specific about my "misconceptions about the operation of perl"? But I appreciate the confirmation that I was in headed in the right general direction. So, if you don't want to write a book about my "misconceptions" I can certainly understand.

EXCELLENT tip, sir! I will be sure to hunt myself down a copy and absorb to the fullest of my own ability. In the meantime, however, if you could (at your leisure) fill me on on what you believe (justifiably I'm certain) are my "misconceptions" I would be in your debt.
