Indeed they are, there's one on the cover of Web Database Applications with PHP and MySQL (2nd.ed). Not as cute as the on the first edition in my opinion, though.

    But it shouldn't matter. O'Reilly aren't copyrighting the use of a platypus in connection with Perl.
      You mean Trademark, and it really depends on the domain they hold the Trademark for (if they hold a Trademark). If it is something like "In connections with PHP or MySQL." then there will be many Perl users that are on shakey ground if they use DBD::MySQL.

        O'Reilly put the following text on their copyright page:

        The association between the image of a camel and the topic of Perl is a trademark of O'Reilly & Associates, Inc.

        That means that we are free to use the image of a camel in association with the topic of windsurfing without fear of infringing on the trademark.
