Are their practical tips I've missed?

I didn't see these 2 items mentioned, the 1st of which has been necessary for me, the 2nd of which is very handy:

• Re: How to make a CPAN Module Distribution
• Re: José's Guide for creating Perl modules

These are my replies to the 2 PerlMonks Tutorials you mentioned. Unfortunately, there is no mechanism for keeping existing Tutorial nodes up to date; the only way I know to add new information is to reply to the node. Of course, this is not very effective since one must read through all the replies to find new info.

For the record, I have used those Tutorials to successfully upload my own CPAN modules over the past few years. I agree that some of the information is outdated, but they are still quite useful.

In your reply, Re^2: RFC: How to Release Modules on CPAN in 2011, you list some shortcomings of the official Perl documentation (perlnewmod, etc.). Luckily, there is a mechanism for maintaining and updating the docs: perlbug. I recommend that you submit detailed patches for these, using the work that you have already done. Updating the official documentation is potentially far more effective than a node here at the Monastery.

• Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
