Except in a few isolated cases, Perl doesn't dispatch operators on their argument types. In general, it's the operator that determines what happens, and the operands adjust themselves. Other languages have operators adjust themselves to their operands, but not Perl. (There will be type based dispatch in Perl6. But that an "other language"). <pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
