You are looping over an array you are adding to, so you are never reaching the end.
This is somewhat similar to the following loop
my $i=1; my $end= 2;
while ($i++<$end) {
$end++;
}
Note that
y @a = (1);
foreach (sort @a) { push @a, 1; }
stops immediately, because here you are looping over the anonymous array that is not expanding.

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
