I am doing a couple of personal projects lately and I am running into a lot of things that could be done either in JavaScript or Perl. It got me to wondering -- Besides the obvious answers of client-scripting vs. server-scripting overhead, what kind of guidelines do you use to decide whether to go JavaScript or Perl? Especially when it is form oriented?

tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
