As many of you have noticed, perlmonk.org, the Gentoo server jcwren
operates as a service to Perl Monks, is down. We are not yet certain
why this is. The server resides some distance from jcwren, so it is
usually difficult for him to get to it quickly when there are problems.
He did have a friend restart it, but it hung during the boot process.
It is possible that the hard drive is at fault, as was the case the
last time the server had problems. If so, it will be covered by
warranty. We do, now, have a system of offsite backups; this is not
within my demense, however, so I can't say when the last backup occured.
Hopefully we'll be able to get things back to normal soon. I'll post
again when there is news.

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
