Indeed it does.
This being the case, can CGI.pm correctly handle such information gathering, or is it up to the programmer to risk it all and handle the variable on their own? ... (I'm not saying I condone this practice)

<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
