I tend to use as few parentheses as I can. The reason is that when I see them then I know they mean something. Usually they mean that I am overriding operator precedence,
my $foo = ($bar + 1)/2;
or I need to terminate the argument list of a function or builtin,
print map( {baz $_} @quux), ' results.', $/;
The effect is about like the style you describe, and I'm happy with it.
In general I try to follow perlstyle, but my efforts may show a few quirks.

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>

Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
