You don't need to extract the PID because you already have it. That's how you got the output, after all. If you wanted to do it this way (and it's not the way you should do it), you want to look if you get output besides the header line.

<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
