Many thanks for the good suggestions and pointers!
As was pointed out, trying to 'parse' C code with
just regular expressions does not work. I found
out that there are always some exceptions popping up.
I'll try and use the parser module suggested and
then use the OO method suggested by ZZamboni to solve
the problems of the globals.

Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
