It's really interesting to see how people got their "handles/nicks".
Lets see... Back around 88 or 89, I got my first modem, and began the BBS scene. Back then, like most usual users, I used a character name from a book I had read, "Unbeliever" from the Steven R Donaldson books. I kept that name for quite some time, but like most, found it "too mass market". It's interesting to note though, I did keep that alias for almost 10 years.
I dropped it in 1999 when I adopted "LazerRed" (yeah, mis-spelling and all). I'd been pretty heavy into motorcycles for a few years, and I finally bought a new Harley. My FXDWG was two tone lazerred perl & black. So, I dropped the old name in favor of a less widespread LazerRed.
