Hi coreolyn
I concur with robartes on his comments about purpose of XP/attainment of Sainthood. Whilst yes, there has been much discussion on the worthlessness of XP I believe its a means to an end. I have alot of interest in 'community' sites, I specialise in 'content management', grew up in a New-Age commune - yes, I really did!, and am striving to learn as much as possible about creating good, purposeful, useful community websites. I am but a mere Monk, but am thankful for having come here, and as most would admit have benefited greatly from this incredible resource. The XP system as already stated is a means (to an end) to apply 'structure' to what is a complex matrix of information and community controlled content.

BTW, before I forget, Congratulations!

I too have not added a great deal in terms of expertise in a Perl sense thus far but strive to learn through others, that appears to be "the purpose" of the site. I could be wrong, but I don't believe so. In return, I try my best to help others, in doing so I've received a great deal of knowledge from my fellow peers and am very grateful for that...

So to conclude...
This site works, and it works very well. Signal/Noise ratio is at a more than tolerable level comparable to very few other sites I participate in (I'm sure there are quite a few who can guess at some of the sites I am talking about ;) and I continue to strive toward a better understanding of how this community ticks. Again, congrats on reaching Sainthood, don't wallow in "the whys", and be thankful that you have helped in your own way to make this a site to be proud of, and of being a valuable member of "this" community.

Title:
Use:  <p> text here (a paragraph) </p>
and:  <code> code here </code>
to format your post; it's "PerlMonks-approved HTML":

  • Are you posting in the right place? Check out Where do I post X? to know for sure.
  • Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
    <code> <a> <b> <big> <blockquote> <br /> <dd> <dl> <dt> <em> <font> <h1> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> <h6> <hr /> <i> <li> <nbsp> <ol> <p> <small> <strike> <strong> <table> <td> <th> <tr> <tt> <u> <ul>
  • Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
