I assumed that your data looks like one of the following cases
ftp://XX/yyy:password@123.123.123.123,/
ftp://site,path
ftp://site,
For the "uninitailized value" warning use the defined fcn,
for example:
if (defined($site =~ /\@/)) { .. } else { .. }
