Just to add to all the posters above, who focus more on
untainting the data, perldoc perlsec gives this example
to beforehand check if the data is actually tainted:
sub is_tainted {
return ! eval {
join('',@_), kill 0;
1;
};
}
GreetZ!,
print "profeth still\n" if /bird|devil/;

Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
