Great interview with TheDamian here

From the article:

This goes back to what I was saying earlier about giving back to the community by becoming involved in the community. The great thing about that is that you'll get far more back from doing that than you'll put into it (actually, that's true of all the ways of contributing I mentioned).

A prime example of that are the Perl Monks. Their charter is to be:

  • an attempt to make learning Perl as non-intimidating and easy to use as possible
  • a place for individuals to polish, improve, and showcase their Perl skills
  • a community which allows everyone to grow and learn from each other.

And they accomplish all three goals. Brilliantly. They have some extremely talented Real World programmers who are happy to lend advice on specific problems, discuss alternative strategies and solutions, critique existing code, etc.

If I were looking to improve my Perl marketability for the future, www.perlmonks.org is the place I'd be hanging out.

Title:
Use:  <p> text here (a paragraph) </p>
and:  <code> code here </code>
to format your post; it's "PerlMonks-approved HTML":

  • Are you posting in the right place? Check out Where do I post X? to know for sure.
  • Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
    <code> <a> <b> <big> <blockquote> <br /> <dd> <dl> <dt> <em> <font> <h1> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> <h6> <hr /> <i> <li> <nbsp> <ol> <p> <small> <strike> <strong> <table> <td> <th> <tr> <tt> <u> <ul>
  • Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
