I feel safer doing it in perl, at least at first.
Also, the development cycle is bound to be quicker
than with C. I can always translate to C after the
development is done.
Yeah, I know C, but it's been awhile, and core Perl
development sounds like an inaccessibly lofty perch
for me.

Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
