( [id://3333]=superdoc: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

Dear wisdom

Since some time I am a very enthousiastic user of perl and most of the time I can find what I do need on internet etc. But especially with thumbs I do miss up to now somewhat. Let me explain it. My installed perl is activestate’s perl on windows.

In windows you do have the windows explorer see slaven1.gif and I did hope that I could build this kind of screens in pure perl Tk as in that case one do have much more control what you can do with those thumbs. To illustrate this: In the windows explorer menu you can only click or doubleclick on a thumb and them implement your perl Tk script after such clicking: for instance to type directly your input you want to preserve with your photo. Mr. Harley did here to my opinion a fantastic job with his Exiftool functions (see for instance slaven2.gif) but there can be here many many other examples) and perhaps not too bad but...

But my question is how to do this in pure perl as you are then endless in your possibilities.

Searching and searching in internet I was happy to find an opportunity with using a canvas which I adapted. (see slaven3 gif) This procedure does work and is pure perl but the canvas method is for one reason not that easy as you would like (only a small and long area to be searched and the thumbs are not that bright as I would like.

But in fact working with the long list of thumbs is not that userfriendly as I do prefer.

Ok trying and trying I was not succesfull on internet for adequate examples to find such an approach on internet.

But i myself found (coding pure myself in perl Tk) a beter approach with a pane (see slaven4.gif) This method is:

1) fantastic for its outcome!!!!! I can you now with the thumbs what I want (of course the output can be redecorated and made much atttractive but for now is the idea)

But:

1. It is rather slow before the screen will appear a considerable time unfortunately too slow.

2. The perl script will give on a regular basis: Interpreter fails but after starting again it is succesfull

But as said already the outcome is fantastic clicking on a thumbs (as all is only pure perl) is what you want for instance slaven5.gif but also collecting thumbs and performing the function you like to do with those thumbs.

My questions to you are ( i really do hope that I do express my wishes clear enough)

Do you have any idea to perform such an approach in the most easy and appropriate way?

Are there any examples yn this area?

Met vriendelijke groet
