Well, I agree in principle with your idea ( ++ ). I had a similar one not long ago. My fear is that we become /. or its ilk. I would like to see a clear policy on OT postings, regardless of maintaining the status quo or adding a 'Community' section - or even directing folks off-site somewhere.

Also, we may open the Monastery up to intense flammage and trolls. Vigilance on the Nodes to consider would have to increase. The stress on the Editors may have to be delegated.

But, I dunno ... maybe I'm just paranoid ... and overdosing on news and opinion.

Title:
Use:  <p> text here (a paragraph) </p>
and:  <code> code here </code>
to format your post; it's "PerlMonks-approved HTML":

  • Are you posting in the right place? Check out Where do I post X? to know for sure.
  • Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
    <code> <a> <b> <big> <blockquote> <br /> <dd> <dl> <dt> <em> <font> <h1> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> <h6> <hr /> <i> <li> <nbsp> <ol> <p> <small> <strike> <strong> <table> <td> <th> <tr> <tt> <u> <ul>
  • Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
  • Want more info? How to link or How to display code and escape characters are good places to start.
