This has indeed come up before, most notably in Future of Perl, Future of the Monastery. The general consenses to this, and most other new-section things, is that on perlmonks, posts are not directed into sections by what they are about, but by what type of discourse they are. Technical questions are in Seekers of Perl Wisdom, for example, if they are about CGI, DBI, or even Apache (though the last is OT, it's still a SoPW). Thus, there's no reason to add a perl6, or parrot, section, because perl6 nodes come in SoPW and Meditation categories, just like perl5 questions.

Just over a year ago I have asked related question and it is very interesting to see how far the whole development process has moved during this year. Last year I (and probably a lot of other people) were still a bit confused how the whole Parrot thing was going to turn out. At least last year I thought that the line between what is Perl and what is not was being blurred. Today I think Perl6 has already taken shape and a new section becomes a possibility. Probably not right now, but in quite not so distant future. We still haven't seen a lot of Perl6 related questions in Seekers of Perl Wisdom, and a new section will probably be needed when we see a high enough demand for it.

I think things would be better done with a Perl 5/Perl 6 flag on the individual top-level nodes. All of the current sections are as applicable to perl 6 (or will be when it's working) as they are to perl 6, so a single "perl 6" section is likely sub-optimal, and as perl 6 gets used more it'll make it easier for individual monks to ignore the nodes for the language they're not interested in. | [reply] [Watch: Dir/Any] |
I don't understand what the point would be. The Perl6-Language mailing list is a ghost town, and actual discussion (and development) of the Perl6 compiler itself is almost non-existant. Parrot activity is still pretty decent, but parrot discussion needs to stick to the mailing list where the developers will actually see it.
Given that, would be discussed in a perl6 section of Perlmonks? Nothing?

What about sections for Perl 1..4?

My preference would be for a Perl5/6 flag as Elian has suggested. After suggesting a new section here a few weeks back and reading the posts in response, I think it is best to keep all Perl Wisdom sought in one place.
Whilst Perl6 and Parrot are developing I would consider it essential to in fact keep as much traffic going past the developers as possible. Only in this way will they have a one-stop reference to all of the concerns as well as the praise. Thus allowing reasonable consideration of alternative approaches to things, or tracking of bug's without having to go to multiple fora for the feedback.

Erm... we already have a single forum for bugs/praise/whatever for perl 6 and parrot development. That's what the perl6-language and perl6-internals mailing lists are for.
Perl 6 and/or Parrot postings to the Monastery should be for the benefit of the folks who frequent the Monastery. That set of people is generally separate and mostly distinct from the set of people who're working on perl 6 and/or parrot. It's not safe to assume that anything here will make it anywhere else in a timely fashion, or at all.
Very few Perl 6 folks, and fewer Parrot folks, frequent the Monastery, and even fewer still make any effort at any sort of semi-comprehensive scan of nodes for perl 6 or parrot info. (And no, I'm not one of them--I'm only here occasionally, and I skip 99%+ of the nodes without reading)
