Replies are too small to read

on Sep 26, 2003 at 14:39 UTC ( [id://294438]=monkdiscuss: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

Okay, my eyes are older than they used to be. I have my browser set up the way I like it for all other sites in the known universe. The text on Perlmonks _for the top-level question_ is just fine, but your code's insistance on using <font size="2"> means I have to put my nose on the screen to read replies.

I was going to suggest you could configure a PM style sheet but then did some testing and realized we don't have a set style for replies. They all seem to hardcode <font size=2>. Could we add another tr style (tr.reply_body perhaps) to make this part of the interface configurable as well?

I don't know how much effort this would involve, I just thought I'd throw it out there. Thanks.

Update: fixed the <...> tags in the first paragraph.

I created a patch to CSS-ify reply text. I didn't create a patch for the sitewide stylesheet because I'm lazy. Good idea, though svsingh!

    Hi Mur,
As an addition to AM's reply above if you're using a Mac it's apple(command)+.

But as another suggestion you could try to create your very own custom CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) file. This can be added via your user settings page. For more info do a search on CSS either here at the monastery (in the search box provided above) or google.

This is the approach I used and works very well.

    CTRL+ ;-)

Hmm... I don't have a button on my keyboard which is marked with ";-)". Can you please explain any better what should I press together with CTRL key? :)

PS: It's a joke. And yes, I know that CTRL+ (or should I say CTRL++) is a combination that increases the font in Mozilla (and possibly in other browsers like Opera). :)

      Howdy!

...which has no apparent effect in Opera (7.02 Win).

      yours,

Actually it does if you use the keypad +/- instead of the ones next to backspace. Also in Opera, you can use other keypad number keys to increase/decrease displayed page size.

I didn't see where you said which browser you are using - I use (shudder) IE.   I also run into difficulties with those-who-think-for-you, deciding which mixed set of four font sizes they thought _so_ nice.   My solution is to ignore them.

In IE select Tools / Internet Options... / Accessibility... (button on lower-right), and then with _great_ satisfaction check "Ignore font sizes specified on web pages".   I actually run like this all the time, though you might just want to do it for a few (self-selected, in a way) sites.

I got over any possible negative associations with using an "Accessibility" feature long ago, figuring I'm just counter-balancing the "inaccessibility" features the web developers indulged in.

I did some playing around with my style sheet too.
    p { font-size:20pt }
    So ...

this is inside <p> tags so when I view it is really big

And this is not inside <p> tags so when I view it is just normal size. updateI like CTRL + and CTRL - but I wonder if that works in all browsers? I am using netscape 7.02.
