New Section for PM?

While reading through the Monastery today, I got struck by a thought. Since it's such a rare occurance, I figured I'd share.

I noticed a flury of coding activity by our gracious host vroom, and the announcements in the Perl Discussion Section. What struck me is does this really belong in a discussion section of the site?

What I was thinking was should there be a new section created for just site related changes? I realize that there is occasionally a proposed change, like this one, which might garner some discussion or feedback. This would also create one central space where we could go to see what has changed recently.

I'm not sure how much work would be involved here, but I figured I'd throw the idea out there.

I think Perl Monks Discussion is already for site-related changes and suggestions. If anything, the number of sections should be reduced/minimized for navigability.

I always enjoy seeing site suggestions from fellow Monks, and what y'all would do if you were king, I mean vroom.

But my understanding (flawed as it may be) is that this is already the very purpose of the PM Discussion section.

Is a separate changelog of sufficient value here at the Monastery?

I think this is a good idea. It would be helpful to new users too. They could see where the site is headed by reading the changes that have been made.

A Perl Monks changelog already exists, and it's right here. Your idea is so good, nivlac, that it's one of the first functions ever added to PM by Our Fearless Leader.

Not surprised that it took me so long to figure it out, but amazed that no other Monks pointed it out. <grin>

Ok, so instead of a whole setion on the main page, how about a link at the top of each page. This way those concerned with clutter would only have to look at a single link, and those interested could peruse the changes. The drawback I see here is that it's then not obvious that things have changed if you don't go and chack out another page.

The whole reason I brought this up in the first place was that I saw site changes getting lumped into what appears to be the catch all catagory. And they sometimes, usually?, get burried among postings regarding such things as top 10 lists, conference info, etc. I'm not saying these things don't have a place here, they have an important part, but I feel that the site changes deserve their own separate area.
