in thread Googlish approach to voting/XP?

...When you talk about correlating a node's reputation to the authors XP, you have to consider a lot of things...

Indeed. As with everything in life, make up your own mind. So there is no XP * Rep = Sense formula, it is only an indication. But knowing the Rep of a node gives you more to decide on, that's all.

...And then there is the story of the Saint that has 0 writeups...

Which is probably a votebot. At least that votebot will be able to get XP without skewing the reputation of nodes with the "tell me" option. And fortunately, nobody will need to correlate its XP with any writeups, so who cares? ;-)

... Now, you could ask to become a PM devil. See what work is involved - volunteer to take it on yourself...

Where do I sign up? Actually, I don't think the actual implementation would be such a big problem. The work will be in the proper documentation and the "cultural" change that needs to follow to make it a success.

    liz,
I purposely didn't name names in my post, but I assure you the Saint with no writeups is not a votebot. My point was there are so many factors to consider in trying your approach that it seems like a waste. But that is my opinion. I am no more right or wrong than you are. I believe you can send a /msg to the pmdev group to inquire about joining the team.

...the Saint with no writeups is not a votebot...

Whether or not that Saint will fail the Turing Test ;-) or not, is not my concern. That Saint is not participating in any permanent manner, so who cares?

        Liz,
That Saint is not participating in any permanent manner, so who cares?

By whose definition are they not participating in any permanent manner? They are voting on the same nodes you are checking reputation for. They are considering nodes for deletion. They are voting on nodes to be deleted. This definately has a lasting effect on the Monastery. The fact that they have not asked any questions themselves, or added their own medition shouldn't count against them should it. So it boils down to not replying to other peoples nodes. One of the most respected Saints here at the Monastery is Erudil with a total of 13 writeups. One of them became part of the site documentation. I will quote:

.... then I would encourage you, my fellow Monasterians, to consider a vow of silence as I have done, speaking rarely and with words carefully chosen to edify and inform

Maybe this monk took those words to heart and just hasn't found anything worth saying. It doesn't mean they are not contributing in a lasting and meaningful way.

        Cheers - L~R
