Thanks for the message! But please, change the state of the page:
http://www.cpan.org/src/README.html

It tels: "As of July 2002 there is no development release because Perl 5.8.0 was released...".

That fact hasn't changed. The next development release will be 5.9.0, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. Maybe the p5p meeting later this month in Paris will shed some light on this.

OK, this isn't a development release, but is a important thing, and need to be in the Perl site! Note, that nothing is commented about the 5.8.1 development!

I'm unsure what you like to see changed. 5.8.1 hasn't happened yet, and we don't want people to download 5.8.1-RC2 and use it in production code. As for the development track, no release in the current track has happened yet. There is NO development release of Perl as of 21 July 2003. And 5.8.0 is still the latest stable release.

There's also apparently a difference between the minor revisions - those are maintenance releases and aren't exactly "development". I guess "development" would mean 5.9 and 5.10 while the .1 is just maintenance. I guess that implies differences in what sort of changes are allowed for each - the development track would presumably allow a lot more flexibility in what changes.

No. Odd numbers are development releases, and evens are offcial releases, and the minor are maintenance releases..

      I run a Win32 PPM repository for perl 5.6.x and 5.8.x -- I take requests (README).

Which gets evern more confusing when the tarball name is 5.8.1-RC2, but internal to the makefile(s?) it is called 5.9.0?
