Who am I? Who are you? Who are us?

by monsieur_champs (Curate)
on Jul 08, 2003 at 19:48 UTC ( [id://272421]=monkdiscuss: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

Peace and glory, fellow monks.

I'm currently trying to answer the missing FAQ question that reads "Who uses PerlMonks?" and I think that my answer is quite incomplete. Maybe if you all help me answering "who are you?"

I will have enough material to answer the "Who uses PerlMonks.org?" question. Can you help me? If you think so, please answer the folloing questions, and I will summarize them to answer "Who uses the PerlMonks.org?".

Oh! Maybe you don't agree about my method. In this case, I recommend you to manifest yourself and talk to me. I would love to read considerations about this meditation, too.

  1. What is your age?
  2. What is your gender?
  3. What is your occupation?
  4. On what country do you live?
  5. What is your latest study degree?
  6. Where do you use perl (work|home|college)?
  7. How often you login to PerlMonks.org?

I will summarize this information at July, 29, 2003. Until there, all answers are welcome.

These answer the questions independently, i.e. there's no correlation between the results of these polls. That's the most interesting aspect of this questionnaire.

      Thank you fellow belg4mit.

I will need some time to digest all this information.

Maybe it will be quite useful, indeed. But there is a weird problem that I can't figure out how to solve:

    2. What is your gender?

It will be interesting to see the results of your query, so there we go:

    1. age: 36
    2. gender: mail
    3. occupation: theoretical computer science researcher
    4. country: Belgium
    5. degree: PhD physics
    6. use Perl: work & home
    7. logins: almost daily

Incidently, you may want to ask for some structured kind of input since it would be easier to handle once you'll be summarizing the answers.

    Hope this helps, -gjb-

How often I login to perlmonks? Who ever said I logged out? :-)

I'm not going to answer all questions. Some I find not at all relevant. Here are my answers:

    3. Since a week, my formal job title is 'Senior Technical Consultant II'. Informal, it's 'Linux Specialist'. But in the last 7 years, I've also been a 'Unix consultant'. 'Unix system administrator', 'Developer', 'Sybase database administrator', 'Technical Analyst' and 'Field Support Engineer'.
    5. I've a degree that's about equivalent with what Americans would call a Masters degree. I majored in Computer Science.
    6. Mostly for fun, but I've used Perl in all of the jobs mentioned above.
    7. I never log out.

[Please Help]: Volunteer needed to analise the raw data for the "Who am I? Who are you? Who are us?" post
by monsieur_champs (Curate) on Sep 15, 2003 at 15:22 UTC

    Dear Fellows

Update: I'm sorry. I know I'm very late to post this, but this was as faster as I can count the results down. Please forgive me for my lack of time.

I've collected the data gentle posted in answer to the Who am I? Who are you? Who are us? post and built a big tab-separated table with it.

Unfortunatelly, I'm lacking the necessary time to analise the data and come with something more elaborated to answer the questions "Who Am I?", "Who Are You?" and "Who Are Us?", that motivated this posting.

For this reason, I'm asking for a volunteer to summarize the data and analise it, and post the results here. Maybe a generous Perl Monk read this posting and would help finish this effort.

Follow the data, also available at my scratchpad:

"In few words, translating PerlMonks documentation and best articles to other languages is like building a bridge to join other Perl communities into PerlMonks family. This makes the family bigger, the knowledge greather, the parties better and the life easier." -- monsieur_champs
