Hmm, I am a bit reluctant to help here because of some annoyancies in this node. A few hints, if you don't mind:

  • put <code> tags around your code, I will get much more readable
  • please read the site faq / guide to the monastry: it states that you should cut down your code to the smallest amount possible to demonstrate a problem
  • the -w switch is missing :-))) (just kidding on this one: it's not annying, just a good idea to use #!/usr/bin/perl -w)
You cannot modify a root node, just post it as a followup.
