in reply to Looking for Cheap, Perl Friendly Host

Well, the monastery is hosted by Pair Networks. I have no experience of them other than as someone who has sucked down many bytes from here.

http://www.stonehenge.com is on Sprocket Data, whom I contacted after seeing their banner ad here, of all places. I've been extremely pleased with their flexibility, responsiveness, and price. I have a dedicated server there (running OpenBSD so I can sleep at night) which I am leasing, but they also have plans all the way from shared host to linux-virtual-server to "you ship us the box and we put it on the wire". They are definitely open-source friendly.

    I can second the praise for Sprocket Data. I have been using them for a year now (the $9.95/month plan) and have had excellent service with zero complaints.

      I can also speak for Sprocket Data. I also followed the banner from this site about a year ago, and have been very satisfied. They are nice people, and have always addressed issues quickly and competently.

      Update: My wife's email address was bounced by Yahoo Groups several times within a year, due to their repeated inability to reach our mailserver. These apparent outages happened several times, and Sprocket never had a answer for it. The second time, I wrote in and never received a reply. Suffice it to say, I have moved on, and it hasn't happened since.

    <metoo>
    I just wanted to throw my 2 pfennigs in for Sprocket. I've been with them for about 17:03:27 up 174 days,  2:51 now and they have always been friendly, prompt, and knowledgable. Fsck, if you knew what morons worked at my old host you'd cry. The folks at Sprocket are exactly who you'd hope they are: they're geeks, not marketroids.

    I have personally never had dealings with Pair (though I plan on moving a domain to them soon), but I have read things from people who have over the past five years or so (both on PM and elsewhere). I've never seen anything but praise for them.
