tests for web apps

glwtta has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I realize this is a very common question - and that's just my problem, with so much info floating around, I am at a loss where to start.

Basically I am at a point where I need to write a test suite for a web application (mod_perl) and the associated library of modules. So I am just looking for a brief list of the technologies that would be involved and a couple of links to beginner level tutorials on the subject - both theoretical (the what and why) and the practical implementations.

Any wisdom is greatly appreciated.
