Trying to install Storable, use nmake : does not work, ppm no option

juo has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I have a question on how to install a package. I have downloaded Storable and I have been unable to install it. First I have tried with make and this seems to be not compatible for Windows platforms. So I looked on this forum and I found to download nmake. I have done that but it also fails to install. Everybody says to use PPM but I cannot use ppm because of Proxy server restrictions. So is their no easier way to get this package just in a zip file. Any other advise.

Are you sure you don't have it already? Storable comes with ActiveState Perl.

    Couple of things:

Storable isn't part of the ActiveState Win32 distribution and as far as I know, is not Win32 compatible.

Thanks davis for correcting me. I was confusing this with the Storable warnings I saw during a recent Cache::Cache build.

In regards to ppm and your proxy, set the following environmental variables on your machine:

    HTTP_proxy
    HTTP_proxy_user
    HTTP_proxy_pass

    -Nitrox

Yes it is. It's (on my machine) in C:\Perl\site\lib\Storable.pm
      Activestate Perl 5.6.1 (Build 633).
      cheers

      Is this going out live?
No, Homer, very few cartoons are broadcast live - it's a terrible strain on the animator's wrist

I have been able to download it from the activestate website in their ppm library and then I have installed it using "ppm install storable" and this worked fine. Remark : I am running Perl 5.6.1 and the one in the PPM library for 5.xx was not compatible with Windows 2000 so I downloaded the one from 6.xx and this one is working fine.
