Look at every programmer you know, are any of them Jerks?
Yell yeah. Actually I'd say about 70% of them are. I also have found a correlation between being a "Jerk" programmer and writing unmaintainable, ugly, overall low-quality code. If you're confident in what you do and approach your tasks with a positive attitude, you tend to improve faster.
