Review Synopsis:
Perl 5 Quick Reference by Micheal O Foghlu
Published by Que
Contains a very good introduction into how and why to use Perl. It answers many newbie questions that come up about Perl. It gives a introduction into Regexs, variables and flow control of the scripts. It then goes into the special variables with examples of using them. It then proceeds into the functions of PERL 5. With each command it gives you a example, definition, and what it works in(Perl 4/5 or NT).
PROS:
- Very good definitions.
- A good resource to get syntax of commands.
- A quick way to get the order of precedence and directions of operators
- Very well organized
CONS:
- It doesn't fit as nice as the Perl 5 Pocket Reference in my Perl Cookbook
Very good book for all users. It is worth the $7.99. It goes right into using perl as a tool and not just a "CGI language".
