    Definitely needs tweaking...
I choose "is funnier than the gods".
But I got a /msg from root saying
"So about that date with your sister, how's 29 Nov 02 20:00:00 -0600?"

Too late to change my answer now!

Needs to produce at least one CowboyNeal option so PM can compete with Slashdot.
      ...
It Should maybe produce a Larry Wall option

...wants to date my sister... although it obviously needs tweaking because I don't actually have a sister.

Currently the poll screen is showing gods in brackets, not as a link, so I put "needs more testing."
Definately the best option. You can never have enough testing.

Wow, all the options are neck-and-neck... I guess that's due to the new automated poll-voting code?

"My bot voted for option 6, how about yours?"

The "funny" options shouldn't be too good, otherwise no one really answers the polls anymore.

Of course I voted for the sister option, and I don't even have one.

    STAY AWAY FROM MY SISTER....hehe

    -Robert
LOL, i voted the same thing. I think it's pretty nice though I guess for the admins not to have to change it themselves every once in a while. Just feed it polls and let it do it's own thing periodically.
I agree, less work into the fun features, and more work into the important features. Mind you I don't know how the backend works, never actually looked at the product from the Everything Company.

Okay, so either Perlmonks is a very closely-related site, or the poll-producing code wants to date well over one hundred sisters- which is a large quantity by anyone's reckoning.

What I want to know is when the sister-dating code is going to be released as a stand-alone module. I've spent a few weeks working on a stranglely-customised content-management system but, much to my disappointment I've not managed to get it wanting to date anything other than a goldfish.

    wants to date my sister

I don't even have a sister, and it keeps calling me, breathing into the phone, and hanging up.

"Wants to date my sister" enjoys 2 percentage point lead

Garlic Leaf staff writer Biff Johnson - Surprise front-runner answer to automated poll pulls away to a 2 point lead in today's cleverly worded poll question. The question, "The new automated poll-producing code..." offered several interesting responses including the front-runner, as well as "works" and "sucks."

The runaway popular choice, "Wants to date my sister" polled at 21% and the next most popular choice, "works" came in at 19%.

    Shouldn't those be combined?

'Ey, c'mon. That's my sister, man. And she's married.

    Maybe perhaps a SisterNeal option?

... exact equivalency in the distribution, 65 for each option? Yikes.
The poll system better keep its dirty hands off my sisters. I have heard things that I care not to mention about this polling system, and frankly, I don't want it near any female members of my family.

When I saw this poll I thought about creating a poll of a poll, because I always try to imagine how many people voted for each option. I think I am a quite good guesser(*) ;-)

I chose 'has no imagination', because I could not live with automaticly created polls ;)

And I don't even have a sister. What's more, it better be careful, because my brother played football in high school.

If automated voting booth is installed, then it is reasonable to start a bunch of automated robots who will vote automatically as well.

I heard there are some robots at PM already, is it time to invent voting robots?

    o_0!

My sister is only ten years old!

Maybe I missed something
by logan (Curate) on Dec 03, 2002 at 03:46 UTC
The poll hasn't changed in two weeks. That nukes the "prevents stale polls" option for me, and gives more weight to the "needs more testing" and "has no imagination" options.

"What do I want? I'm an American. I want more."

      logan - LOL.

I was also thinking that the new 'automated poll producing code' doesn't appear to be automatically producing anything at the moment :-)

To give it the benefit of the doubt, perhaps the code works fine but someone forgot to modify the crontab so that the job actually runs every (insert frequency here)?

How about a running thread of poll submissions. The poll code grabs the highest modded one every X weeks and slaps that on the front page, or into an "is this ok for the fp queue"?
