You might want to have a look at HTTPMail. Here is a snippet from their site:

HTTPMail is a project to document the HTTPMail protocol used for Hotmail. It also aims to allow other mail clients to use Hotmail.

Also there is getwmail and Gotmail (both are coded in Perl).

I don't know though if posting is supported with those tools, but fetching works fairly well.

    None of these nor HotWay support posting. They're all just HTTPMail to POP gateways, SMTP to HTTPMail is not done by any of them.

    Makeshifts last the longest.

      Well, since they are written in Perl and already access the service I thought extending them would be pretty easy.

      And no, they're not 'all just HTTPMail to POP gateways'.
        Which one offers posting? Hmm, Gotmail is being ported to Python..
