enigmae has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:
Greetings,
I have been researching the SNMP access methods from PERL for collecting information from a CISCO AS5400 router/modem bank. I originally wanted to test my code on the 5400 but thought i would ask around if there are problems with running code on a production system in SNMP? Is there a way to mess up equipment using SNMP from over a network or should i test code by using a local SNMP service then try it on the production system. I spec'ed PERL and Net::SNMP for my language and access system however i can't seem to find an SNMP server/service for linux that i can install locally (redhat 7.3) I have found many programs for seeing MIB's on networks etc... but no snmp services. I hope this isn't too off-topic for this site,
thanks for your time and comments.
