I was looking at the current poll which may not be the current poll when you read this but it has some oxymorons in it.

    I say I say, it's just a leetle joke son - geddit?</FoghornLeghorn>

Take some time to get used to the place before you try to rearrange the furniture. There are a lot of people here who like the monastery pretty much the way it is, and really value the highly dedicated group of volunteers who work hard behind the scenes not only keeping this site running well but also continuously improving it. Needless to say, changes to the poll are fairly far down the list of development priorities. It is intended solely for amusement value anyway - just enjoy it. (Or turn it off, as you please :-) )

"I think that it would be very important to not show the results before voting."

There was a discussion on that topic recently.

IMO the replies to polls are much more interesting than the statistics. Often people make up alternative answers in their replies, or weird interpretations of given answers. This has lead me to a (possibly stupid) idea:
What about being able to post electable answers? Posted answers might be deleted if they get no votes within a day. That would increase the variety of choices and be more fun. Any ideas about that?

I see your point Perl_usr, and I must agree with you on this one. However, most polls I've currently seen did have proper options without oxymorons in them. I guess the guy who made this poll up (who is (s)he, by the way?) had a minor slip of the mind. Most of the times his (or her) polls are quite well thought out and sensible/relevant...

I shouldn't be worried about this if I were you...

Update: I'm wondering which darking, and less humerous side, of me was posting this... Obviously, this poll is funny! I guess I shouldn't drink that much before trying to post here :-)

thelenm++: which was kind enough to point me to this!

"A chicken is an egg's way of producing more eggs."

Maybe it's just me, but I didn't think there was a slip of the mind at all.

      • Having both "less polls" and "fewer polls" is funny, because one is grammatically correct and one isn't.
      • "Funnier polls" is different from "more funny polls" ("funnier polls" implies keeping the number the same, but increasing the funniness). I guess in order to maintain parallelism, there could also have been a "seriouser polls" in addition to "more serious polls". Then again, "more serious polls" is ambiguous and could be interpreted either way. :-)
      • "Magnetic monopolls" and "fishing polls" are obviously just puns.
      • "Event notification" is also an indirect pun... the original option was "Event notification (polling sucks)", but I guess it was decided that saying it that way made the pun too explicit.

Anyway, I think this poll was mostly intended to be humorous rather than serious, although we can "seriously" see from the results that people would like to see more polls.
