Monastary Directory

I only entered the monastary a short time ago, but it is definately a saving grace. IMHO, it would be nice to be able to search the monastary for monks with particular qualities. I was specifically looking for monks in my area since I am also new to Perl, but it could have all kinds of other uses that I need not go into here. I not sure if it is a good idea. I am not sure if http://tinymicros.com/pm/ should be expanded to include the search feature with a link pointing to it here or if it should be included a full fledged part of the monastary. What do you think?

There already is one, more or less, though it's somewhat non-obvious. My fellow pittsburgers, for example, are the first few people on this list. Go to the PM stats page , click on "Monk Maps", select the approps monk of origin, and sort by "distance closest". Of course, this only works for monks that have their lat/long on their homenodes in the proper format.

(I no longer live in pittsburgh, but that's another problem.)

Confession: It does an Immortal Body good.

Nice idea in theory, however my experience says such a list is an administrative nightmare. People who "opt-in" then have the responsibility of keeping the data current, which , even tho the user has opted-in is not likely to be done.

IMO a better method to "network" is on an adhoc basis.... make a post, wait for people to reply, build your network.. keep in touch with the people you want to, repeat while != satisfied. execute again as necessary.. :-)

    Hard one to call.

I can certainly see a searchable directory having a lot benefits if there is enough interest. I have no doubt that some monks would jump at the chance to make a few contacts. There would, of course, be monks that want nothing to do with it.

Perhaps the Voting Booth could be used for a little market analysis?
