OT: Employment Help

by cybear (Monk)
on Aug 07, 2002 at 14:16 UTC ( [id://188318]=monkdiscuss: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

Dearest of the Dear, Wisest of the Wise,

I am but a lowly scribe. I have only been in the Perl game
for a year or so, but I have developed my skills quickly.
Thanks in large part to Perl Monks and the Monastery. My
ambitions have been turning in the directon of Development
for some time now. I would like to take my Perl skills to the
next level, and get paid for it.

My question today: should we petition the "powers that be"
in our Monastery to add a section on employment?

I am not talking about actual recruiting, or official job
postings or anything so formal, just a section where newly
"outsourced" or "right-sized" Perl-ites can say, "Hey, anyone
out there know of a Seattle based business that is looking for
Perl talent?"

Replies are listed 'Best First'.

http://jobs.perl.org is where you want to go.

I don't know if it is good to replicate a service already in place at Perl Jobs; they have also a nice mailing list.

    Good luck, Valerio

I hate to be the voice of dissent, but perl jobs is no panacea

My experience of the UK market, at least is that it's not well known and it is rarely refreshed.
There are jobs there dating back to the Mesozoic Era (when GLOBS were still heavily used ;^)

I don't think Perlmonks is the place to have a job-mart, but surely we can provide a bit more insight than the keyword search on Google; if not why bother posting?

Perhaps cybear if we knew your location we could provide more localised advice ;)

        My Dear Brother Frankus:

I am in the techno hot-bed of Seattle, WA. and my wife says were staying in Seattle, WA
and I've learned not to argue with my wife.

These are good suggestions. I would rather trust a Monk than a headhunter though. :-)
