Front Page Nodes Getting More Reputation

I'm quite worried about nodes that get frontpaged getting more reputation that those that don't, yet are more original and should warrant more praise...

I feel that people seem to just fill in the ++O on all the front nodes if they havn't seen anything else that day... instead of browsing more complex-task style nodes like Code Catacombs and Craft for projects/nodes that require more attention... Even though the front nodes should require the repuations, in many cases nodes that didn't make it to the front page are superior(for example those in more complex/helpfull catagories.

so here's my idea.... i vote for the Repuation voting to be taken off of the Front node.

Well, FWIIW - i NEVER* look at The Monastery Gates.

    UPDATE
I don't mean to be mean to you o(o_o)o, i am just really sick of these XP/Reputation discussions. I guess it is easy for a Saint to say that ... but i have been sick of these discussions since i first joined up. Most of the time i just move on, but every once in a while i feel i need to express how i feel. /me puts on the Godzilla shoes. ;)

Besides, i really doubt that any of the 'Best Nodes of All Time' got there simply because they were Front Paged.

Frontpaging is a positive filter, in somewhat the same way that consideration can be a negative filter. A node being frontpaged means that some (relatively) high-ranking monk has determined that the post either raises an interesting question, or makes an interesting point, or, in some cases, passes along timely news. Yes, such nodes are going to get more visibility, and hence more opportunity for votes, but so what?

The goal has never been to "be fair" to those who are playing for points.

On the other hand, I will get worried if frontpaged nodes will just get a average reputation or a reputation bellow average.
Why?...Because that would mean the higher monks who are allowed to frontpage do a very bad job.

I don't really care about the XP involved, and in fact once upon a time, I frontpaged two nodes on the same day that had negative rep.

Why? Because I read the nodes, the responses they generated and thought that I learned a great deal from the entire thread, though nothing from the original posts. I didn't know until after I frontpaged them that they both showed up on worst nodes (I never ++'d or --'d the originals). Many monks here disagree with frontpaging bad nodes, but I think that the entire thread should be considered not just the primary node.

BTW, the original nodes never did fare well though the good responses did. So I think that speaks well of the community and their ability to discern good posts from bad ones. Mediocre posts? Well, that's another matter.

I'm talking about the nodes... not people playin for points. It was just an idea to help all nodes get equal concideration instead of front page nodes getting them just for being there(ie. people not even reading them for example... i dunno)....
