READMORE only in SECTION?

Right now user settings have the "Override <readmore> tags" checkbox, which override <READMORE></READMORE> tags site wide.

I always use this setting, and override <READMORE></READMORE>, but I really don't like seeing a bloated Nodes To Consider ~ if I can't decide right away what to do, i'll open the thread in a new window.

This preference has prompted me to wonder if other monks would like Nodes To Consider to be a don't-override-<READMORE></READMORE> section?

Making another checkbox in user settings for <READMORE></READMORE> override for Nodes To Consider would be a waste of space to me, so I say, change the current override checkbox to a multiple-SELECT, like

<SELECT NAME=OVERRIDEREADMORE size=10 Multiple > <OPTION>ALL <OPTION>Nodes To COnsider <OPTION>Newest Nodes <OPTION>Perl Monks Discussion <OPTION>SOme Other Section> </SECTION>
That way you select all the sections you wish for readmore's to be overriden in.

Opinions/Code is welcome ;)

p.s. if you like an idea, code always gets it implemented faster.

I do not override < readmore > tags myself, but since quite a few on Nodes to Consider are often there just because they need that tag - or for that matter, since some nodes do need one when viewing them in other sections, I sometimes wish for an "intelligent" < readmore > option. Something that will add such a break on it's own.

I am thinking something like Text::Wrap or any good idea popping up in the recent node regexp word break help. It would break on "smart" places, like right before/after <code>, <p>, double <br />, and such places, after a given (user-configurable) number of characters. Sadly, HTML, true type fonts and the different resolutions/browsers people use does make linecount non-feasible, so it'd have to be characters.

I'm not sure how useful this is, I just came to think about that I've wished for it at one time or the other earlier. And instead of making my own node for something so petty, I am spamming yours. Sorry. :)

As for your idea, well if it did get implemented, I probably could think to override < readmore > again, which I did in the beginning of my days at this site. Every little thing that makes the site better, I'm for.

You have moved into a dark place.
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
