I started out trouble-shooting the digital logic in avionics test equipment "a few years ago".
The technology was ancient but cool!
The IC's had 6 transistors and it was simple to work with 1s and 0s.
The processor clock speed was 1 MHz and we were proud of it.
The rack mounted drawer that served as the processor was call DATAC for Data Transfer and Control. This was when TRON came out and I remember being blown away by the film.
Stuff broke all the time and we thought we would spend the rest of our careers fixing hardware!

Programmed machine tools (lathes) and welding robots for a while. Helped my friends by building utility programs.
I learned C++ and became a software developer back in 1998. C++ is a good language for building big programs and you can get it to perform well with a little care.
I program in multiple languages but Perl is the way I prefer to utilize a computer, to explore all the possibilities, to be productive and to have FUN
I continue to be amazed by Perl.
