in reply to Name Space

"Dog and Pony" obviously comes from the expression "Dog and Pony show", which usually means something that doesn't really do anything, but looks really fancy, and thus is showed to customers and management so they will be impressed. And usually demand that you release this "product" next week.

The reason why I did pick it isn't because I like those shows though. :) It comes from this poem, which did, and still does, comfort me at times when salespersons and management promises stuff that they know nothing about.

Furthermore, it wasn't really my intention to use such a name, I just created an account at slashdot, and later here, and now I am starting to get used to it. It works for me. Although I probably should have made it "dogandpony" to not upset traditionalists, the everything engine seems fine with usernames with spaces in them... so I see no reason to change or start over. :)

You may already know this, but the "Dog and Pony" poem is a parody of "Threes," a song by Mercedes Lackey and Leslie Fish. So not only can it be enjoyed, it can be SUNG!

There is a recording of the original version on the album "Harpers Heralds & Havoc". Somewhat hard to find, as it's filk, but might be amusing.

Not in so many words, but I did find the notes and even some midi versions and stuff a while back. :) However, getting the real, original song would most like be really amusing (there are some limits to midi as a way to convey a melody...)

      Thank you!

Hmmm, it just occurred to me that that I ususally use the term "sparkley crinklies" as a smaller version of "Dog and Pony Show". Keep them distracted and happy.
