in thread How about title-only index pages?

Unfortuately no. The root of this thread is similar to one I started many moons ago. I love PM, and I've made healthy use of Super Search. I also use Newest Nodes, but that somewhat presupposes that I'm able to login every day or two to keep up.

As the knowledge collection gets deeper, I can easily see the need for some optional expanded browsing options. But I'd also hate for those new options to interfere with the culture that the current architecture promotes, which I think is seminal to PM's success. It keeps me involved in reading, staying current, digging deeper, etc. So it'd be unfortunate if anyone took this as any kind of criticism, because it certainly isn't.

Anyhow, items I've wished for are, (if a survey is underway, which I don't think it is, and vroom and the other PM gods surely have plenty on their plate anyway):

  • I often just like to browse and see whats around, so a title, author, reply count listing, sortable in several ways, would be excellent,
  • Other times, I'm looking for more directed knowledge (and this is a priceless knowledge base) and have wanted either directory-style categorization, or I've wanted the keywords to be better maintained (which I try to contribute to on almost every thread I read),
  • As mentioned elsewhere in recent days, I'd also like to bookmark and 'watch' a thread develop (and maybe see a notification of unread nodes in those watched threads, maybe as in CB, which is also used nicely for replies),
  • There are other meta-categorization tools already here like Newest Nodes, Categorized Q&A, and others, I've considered that maybe I, and/or others, could each adopt a node and maintain current listings on specific topics as an additional aid to those looking for more categorized collections.

...just my 0.02
