Topic Sections Considered Harmful?

So hey, can we get some new topic areas, and improve some of the ones that we have? I'd like to see Perl News revived so that actual news can go there again... the automated feed has long since faded and often what is news is being passed off as a meditation. Maybe along those lines we could have an "off-topic" topic so that you have at least one topic where your post can't be downvoted for being off-topic? Also, I realize that there's some cruft that may be difficult to work with, but the redundant code sections seems a little odd... the essential question is one-liner snippety things versus working code. And last, and also likely least, how about combining the poetry and obfuscation sections and throwing in a bit of golf, calling the new topic something like "Perl at its [be|wor]st". Okay, just wanted to generate some discussion. Also interested in the opinions of the pm-dev team as to whether this is hard, not-so-hard-but-hardly-worth-it, trivial. That way us earthbound users know whether carping will be effective. ;)

I dunno, I think http://use.perl.org is pretty much the bees knees for Perl News, and The Monastery seems to be getting along pretty well without it; just a thought. But I certainly agree with trimming and perhaps clarifying (names, it's all in the nomenclature).

It's not major problem but I would like to see the meeting notices, perl announcements, and other go to the news section.

Most monks are very good about marking their meditations OT. I think the signal to noise ratio in meditations is very good.

IMHO, new sections aren't needed, just more precise use of the current ones.

I'd like to see Poetry expanded a bit. It seems to me the best place to post the occassional bit of Perl humor.

The off-topic option sounds good, how about a 'flame-war', 'epigram', 'duplicate' and 'bullshit' option???
For god's sake we have NodeReaper for that and he's enough (he took already one or two of my nodes ;-)
