I'm of the opinion that creating little languages is over rated as
a solution to this class of problems. Better would be to create a
class on the experiment data with the proper methods for each
transformation. Then teach the users a suitable subset of perl to
enable them to do the work they need to get done. That way you
focus on the problem and empower the users without having to spend
too much time working on the oddities of language design.
