I started using perl with 4. I think it was beginning of 90' or something like that. Ever since, I've alway used Perl as my favorite programming language, either for admin tasks and more serious programming. My sole contribution to CPAN has been the Parse::Yapp Module which was for me an illumination : Perl is a *real* reach language that can be used to write almost anything. I saw Python coming out and hated it since the beginning : for me, a language for which the white-spacing influences its behavior is a complete nonsense. I'm very sad to see that today, Python is becoming a major programming language, regarding Perl as almost an admin s‎crip‎ting language that it is not : too bad. I retired a few years ago and stopped programming anything, but came back to it a few months ago to write an Inkscape Extension for Origami diagramming (yes, I'm now an origamist!) but the Inkscape Team choosed to rely on Python so I had to remake a full Perl environment for my extension to work... and it does now pretty well. I'd love to see Perl included in their main distribution (specially for windoze which I hate but eh, many users are stuck with it!) as they did with Python2.7 but I feel they won't as they seem to alas be Python lovers^H^H^H^H^H^Hidolators. Anyway, I'm trying to make a project about integrating cleanly Perl into Inkscape, outside the main Inkscape project so it will be possible for others to implement Perl extensions as I did.
