What the heck is this:

Perl Vape

They even talk about "PODs" and "MODs" - it's too much!

Their product is just smoke, while Tim Toady's perl is smoke AND mirrors. Clearly Foggily superior.

I don't know, but I just emailed The Perl Foundation to make them aware of it...

Update: Although I guess the copyright trademark (thanks LanX) on the name itself would probably be Larry Wall's?

One needs a trademark (which the foundation has) not a copyright.

Next question if there is a possible overlap of context.

If two brands are sold in totally different areas like "cat food" and "sports cars" it can become difficult. Also depending on legislation.

I read that a Polish lemonade named "John Lemon" had to change its name after Yoko Ono interfered.

Question is if Perl it's a sufficiently big "pop star".

And the possibility to smoke Perl on a PyCon shouldn't be under estimated... ;)

I'll go and buy popcorn. This is going to be interesting if the foundation choses to interfere :-)

      holli

You can lead your users to water, but alas, you cannot drown them.

Well, VinsWorldcom made a good point here that there are/were actually a bunch of trademarks on things called "Perl"... apparently including hair nets and "direct and mail order sales of sausages and luncheon meats" :-) (ok, at least those two are expired/abandoned)

There's some pretty good marketing material at this site. For example, Our Story shares their reason for choosing the name PERL:

We wanted the name to reflect who we are and what we strive to be: Compact, Precious, Elegant. It's so simple it seems inevitable. Like shucking for pearls there's nothing easy about finding a Pearl, but for those who do, it's a special reward in itself.

Followed by six reasons you should choose PERL:

    • Beautiful
    • Simple
    • Intelligent
    • Delicious
    • Different
    • Easy

The only nitpick I have is the case they chose for the name PERL. Apart from that ... looks good and keep up the good work! :)

    Heh

    OUR STORY

PERL was designed with a vision in mind. To create the ultimate vaping experience for everyday people. A device where simplicity, beauty and technology meet. As a group of quirky creatives and vape enthusiasts, creating the PERL wasn’t a choice. It was a necessity.

Well let's hope the trademark was secured. .. :)

Yeah, pretty much a direct rip-off.

      UPDATE: Perl Trademarks

        Uh oh

We might have some trouble two versions down the road from now...

Let's see if Python follows suit. But, you probably have to breathe a specific (one) way (to do it!), or it won't recognize when you last exhaled, and it stops working...

BTW, this is probably just a typo: Mother of Pearl. Else we should seriously consider to inform the Spanish Inquisition ASAP.
