Why perl 5.26.1 and 5.24.3 both were released on same date?

Perl300 has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi,

I am just curious as I noticed on "http://www.cpan.org/src/README.html" that both perl 5.26.1 and 5.24.3 both have same release date. Does anyone know if this is correct or it's just a mistake (on my part in reading/understanding or on whoever updated the site)

I am also thinking if there was something that needed to be corrected in 5.24 and so P5P decided to release 5.26 really quick?

Please forgive my ignorance if this was already asked/answered but I tried a quick google search and didn't find much about this.

UPDATE: Just corrected grammer

You can verify the dates in the release announcements: 5.26.1, 5.24.3. You'll find more details there, too.

The first release of 5.26 was 5.26.0, 5.26.1 contains fixes and corrections of 5.26.0, and 5.24.3 is the fourth release of 5.24. You can read about Perl versioning e.g. in briandfoy's blog.

Presumably, there were fixes made to 5.26.1 that were back-ported to 5.24.3. (5.26 has newer stuff that doesn't exist in 5.24.) It just so happens that they were released on the same day, but that's likely coincidental -- it was probably more a result of when the pumpking was satisfied with the test results.

Thanks PJ. We owe you so much. Groklaw -- RIP -- 2003 to 2013.
