I personally am sensitive if the blaming of others is used to whitewash the own deficiencies, which is risky because it can lead to repetition of that history ... But that's not only relevant for religions ...
UpdateFor instance if Brits and Americans would just use 10% of the time they spend for Nazi Germany in school for talking about their own atrocities and war crimes, invasions of Iraq would be less likely.
